Sasha Filipenko: Lukashenko lost againt the Zeitgeist

American talk show host Oprah Winfrey has included the novel of the Belarusian writer Sasha Filipenko "The Red Cross" in the list of 21 best books translated into English this autumn

.

Taking this opportunity, we decided to remind our readers about Sasha Filipenko, who urgently had to leave Belarus after the rigged elections last year. Belarusian writer Sasha Filipenko, author of the novels "Red Cross", "Bullying", "Former Son" and others, constantly draws the attention of the world community to the tragic events in Belarus. Now being abroad instead of writing new books, he switched to writing articles about events in Belarus in the media and letters (like an open appeal to the head of the International Ice Hockey Federation Rene Fasel).

"The novels will wait, now it is important to continue the victory journey the Belarusians began a year ago."

I am constantly trying to attract the attention of the European press - Swiss, Austrian and German, trying to draw their attention to what is happening in Belarus”.

In a column in the Swiss newspaper Republik, taking the example of Natalia Hershe, who has both Belarusian and Swiss citizenship, he wrote about the conditions of keeping women in Belarusian prisons.

"Now I’ll say a terrible thing that it’s hard to surprise me with something, because I write a lot about prisons, about Soviet prisons and torture. I am rather amazed that it is 2021 and everything I write about is possible today.

To write this article, I interviewed women who have been through prisons.

He spoke about the bias towards political prisoners. When they sit together with murderers and thieves in the same cells, they are doing well: there is hot water, the press, and more. But as soon as they find themselves in a cell with political prisoners, all this disappears, torture with light at night begins, the absence of mattresses, roll calls at night, homeless people with parasites are put in place and much more. One journalist who served time described how she was transported in handcuffs, and next to her there were two women who had been convicted of murder and were in prison without handcuffs.

"In this sense, the column about Hersche is a question for Swiss diplomacy about what they are doing at all. Switzerland is the only country that refused to accept Tikhanovskaya at the highest level. At the same time, Switzerland communicates with Makei and believes that Lukashenka is the legally elected president ”.

I am absolutely sure that Lukashenka lost against the Zeitgeist, not against the Belarusians. Because he didn't do anything. He rigged the previous elections with the help of teachers and representatives of the Red Cross, and imprisoned all his political opponents".

It works for five times, but something went wrong for him for the sixth´s election. It seems to me that during this time he did not understand that he is a little behind, that during this time a new generation has appeared, the generation which is eager to choose itself. "

To support the spirit of his friends, the spirit of all Belarusians, to support the generation which chooses itself, Sasha Filipenko wrote "The Day of the Big Traffic Jam". We are pleased to publish a video here.
